British Columbia author Jane Rule was born in Plainfield, New Jersey in 1931. She received her B.A. from Mills College, Oakland in 1952 and attended University College in London, 1952/53 as an "occasional student". In 1954 Rule taught at the Concord Academy in Massachusetts. Ellen Stephen joined the Order of St. Helena in the Episcopal Church in 1964, a few years after completing her M.A. in Creative Writing from Stanford University. Ellen has published several poetry collections as well as spirituality titles. An experienced spiritual director, she travels extensively as a speaker about religious life, and serves as a consultant for religious communities.
